I hear ya man, I know how you are humble about your work(a true artist is). All those words were meant with truth, as I am sure many feel the same about you. As for Smoke... I liked em a lot, as well as liking his maps, but this is a crock of crap seing him 'try' to down play your work.
I honestly don't think I have ever seen anyone brag about their own work like Smoke is... other than LeStat. That is not a true artist's way of dealing with the competition
I gotta say I disagree with you on the "a true artist is humble" part bro. We can all be victims of pride in our work (not that I don't think the higher road is always the better choice). It doesn't make us any less of an artist if we defend ourselves. I just means we didn't take the high road in that instance. I would expect nothing less than a capital LOL from you and something to the effect of, "Bitch you KNOW I'm a good mapper," if someone tried to say the opposite of your work. And I, personally wouldn't stand silent if someone did try to imply that... you being my original mentor and an OG mapper.
That said, the following is a copy of my sentiments on this thread...
See here's the thing... There's really two facets to mapping:
gameplay, and aesthetics. Flow, and eye-candy How fun is it, and how fun is it to look at?
It takes a good mapper to know that.
Ryan's a damn good mapper.
Smoke... you're getting there, but even then, only in one of the two departments. You have potential but only on the aesthetics end so far. And the problem on that end is that your style is a mish-mosh of everyday things that a ton of mappers already do. They look nice but they're a dime a dozen. So until you gain some individuality in styling, theme, and motif AND have an absolutely necessary epiphany involving flow and gameplay, you're nowhere near the elite mapper ryan is.
Ryan's maps reek of understanding. The understanding of how people like to play the game. Most of them also show way more ingenuity and groundbreaking organic design than every map out there. The only nit pick you can have is to whine about his lack of texturing in many, but to say he doesn't have that skill is to eat your words AND your left shoe as soon as you open misadventure. He's just a lazy bastard most of the time.
A lazy bastard who knows more about the editor than anyone I know. And a kindred spirit in the fact that he's one of the few mappers that's totally unafraid to make a map with an innovative flow, knowing all that while that whiny fools who only like hilder and arena will cry about them because they force a new style of play on Runers. Takes a ridiculously good mapper to do that to people.
Matter of fact Smoke, he's such a sh*tty mapper that he and Del are the only two I ask to do final run-throughs on my maps. And seeing as how you ask for my feedback, as well as Del's, when we both speak highly of Ryan's work, goes to show you're either mapping in ignorance or talking out of your neck... but... birds of a feather, y'know?
So before you go pretending that aligning and scaling textures, and copycatting doorway trim makes you a good mapper, learn something about theme, and gameplay.
Your total lack of understanding of the other, crucial half of mapping, and your lack of respect for Ryan's work and inability to offer an interesting paint job or flow yourself shows you have a long way to go and a lot to learn.
That said, I hope you do keep mapping. You do have potential and we do need more maps in the community, but you should do it with a healthy respect for the work of people who can bring you to the next level.

I'm still cool with you Smoke. I have no personal issues at all. So there is no "I think" needed in your last post there. It is as mike stated... We have his back because he has our respect"
Phoxxxy has been around as an oldschooler, yes, though that is not why we have his back. =iNi=as a whole holds open respect for those total noobs too. It all depends on the attitude at hand. I am not try'in to rip on your work, you know how I feel about it... Though out of all due repsect... I can not let anyone talk sh*t on Phoxxxy's artistic skills.
I would have said what I said to anyone that talked about his maps and skills in that manner. He has a ton of knowledge, and I don't want anyone to believe what they read about him that is untrue. As I see it... If a noob to Rune was looking for good mappers, and read your statements about his work, they might just believe that his maps sucked and never attempted to DL his work. That would be a shame, cause he is a top mapper to this community, whether you feel that way or not.
So again, there are no hard feelings from me, and I would still be stoked to check out you future works... anytime.
Standing Strong ! =iNi= tag is worn with pride, shining an image of who ... and what I am inside .
