Why cant you add that many lights... How big is this place?
I am not sure if you looked into the properties of Lights or not, though there are settings you can change. Some of those settings can make the light spread over a HUGE area. Go to a light's properties and the go to "Light Color" Here you will see " Brightness" <---This can be modified to make it real bright/Default is 64... try up to 255. Then right below "Light Color" , you will see "Lighting" Inside the settings of Lighting you will see the "Light Radius" Change this to 255 <---- this will make light travel to a wider radius.

This is another way to do it. This is the ambient method vs the dynamic lighting style. 1 is simple(ambient), though does not look realistic at all, as the other(dynamic lighting) is a realistic point of lighting. It all depends on the maps needs as to which method you use.

You are soooo right about the many ways to do things! That is what makes the editor a sort of addiction. There are always others ways to do things. ;D They are all good, and all used throught different areas of a map or maps.
I remember your name from before "C" Were you in the mapping contest that I was a judge for?
