First of all I'd like to say hi to the ini clan, it's nice to see some of you still play this game after all these years and some of you still creating great stuff for this little community.  Actually I have one question or request, I don't know if this is the right forum but I'll post it here anyway.  I've been browsing your site and found that 1.0 SATools6 server mutator. It has nice mods included, and overall it's very usefull and looks awesome. And damn, all these possibilities... really impressive work from the guy that made this. I really wondered why nobody uses this in on his server nowadays, it seems much better than semiadmin/bmgame every 1.0 server runs. So that's why I started hosting it, but I found out it has two major issues: mismatches and downloadtimes. As a serverhoster myself I always plan to use the best and latest serverprotection/serveradministration mutators out there. I currently run that 12 player =[VnB]=TDM-Server 24/7. I'd love to run this mutator, but it has a few issues. In order to run SAtools you need to have all serverpackages running, so this means people have to download a lot of mods (arena, capture the torch, jailbreak, sarkball) which takes a lot of time, while I'm not even running them. Also, 1.0 has a lot of ported Arena-mods and CTT-mods with the same packagename... this means a lot of people can't join my server because they have the wrong file in their folders (mismatches). I always plan to keep downloadsizes as small as possible on my server so it'll be easy to join for newcomers and get populated (that's basically what this game needs). So I'd love to see a version that doesn't have all these mods included, or is a must have to run. A light version of this SAtools mutator should work perfect on each server, scoreboard and serveradministration included. The serverprotection like antiwallhack and antisuicide should also be ripped out, because these are outdated already. Most servers run AntiCheatV101 nowadays, it's ported to 1.01 by =[VnB]=Karigard and it's basically the same version as that 1.09 anticheat mod for HoV by Frozn. Extra protections added to suit 1.01 environment. It's rather pointless to have the same option running twice (also needs extra downloadtimes). I really hope this is possible, and I'd more than gladly use this on my server. I can even help out to bugtest this mutator on my server, I'm almost sure more servers will use the same mutator if they see this running, 1.01 has always been a few steps behind if you compare it with hov.

This was a "FIX" for the other SATools that were created, and that is why there are mismatches. I rewrote a new base for the SATools because the original SATools modified the original work for the Arena gametype used... there in turn forcing SATools to be rewritten anytime they modified a single gametype. People never wanted to give it a change. (keep in mind SATools6 was released in '09, and was actually created in '08, so its damn old  This mod was never going to be released as I had created a fully functional final of this idea, though I decided not to release it to the public as I left the game. "SlothsOpenSource" was the name of the final version, and it ran great with a lot of choices and admin features, though the 1.00 server public was (no offense meant)too narrow minded to try something other than what they already knew. Again SATools6 was to never be released... I was going to release SlothsOpenSource instead, till I decided to take it to the Rune grave with me

Well after reading this I spent a few hours slapping together (2) new versions of Sloths Open Source. I made one that has the fixed code in Arena, which will still give the version mismatch errors until the Rune public realizes that switching is actually a good thing. I also made another lite version that should be compatible with the incorrect code used in the other versions of SATools.
I will send you either one through email to test, though I would like to explain a bit about why I say it would be better to change versions...
If we continue to use SATools compatible Arena version, we are forced to use ONLY that version of Arena. We are unable to upgrade to new versions of AR that are released with fixes, addons, or patches. The AR version within SATools was modified within the scoreboard of Arena, therefore SATools NEEDS only that version of Arena to be compatible in gameplay. There in turn we will never be able to update AR at all... the only possible way is to recode all of SATools/AR.
If we decide to go with the new version of Arena, and recode mutators around it, as I have with SOS & SOSLite we can change to any version of Arena that is released! I have made all scoreboard code within the actual mutator, not within the version of Arena(this was a noob way to do it). Therefore we are free to work with Arena as we want to, and all we have to do is get others to understand this simple concept.

Sorry for my late response. I didn't bother going back after a few weeks, so I thought nobody cared... sorry for that  I really appreciate the effort you put into this and I'll try to clear things a bit up. My problem with those arenamodes (or any other custom gametype) is that it's required to run as a serverpackage. If a client joins my server it has to download packages I'm not even using... or even worse, he might not be able to join because he already has the package but a different version. He won't be able to join my server and he'll join another one instead. Also, this means a client has to download these custom gametypes. I'll make a list of stuff a client has to download before being able to join my server: -Arena.u ~460kB -CapTheTorch.u ~100kB -SarkBall.u ~750kB -HeadBall.u ~100kB -DodgeBall.u ~50kB -LGS.u ~30kB -TLGS.u ~40kB -AntiWallhack.u ~5kB -MorePlayerKarls ~25kB -MorePlayerUlfs ~25kB -MoreRagnarSnows ~25kB -RuneJailBreak ~110kB -SlothsDarkVikings ~ 25kB -SlothsSark ~25kB -SATools06.u ~360kB That's around 15 packages with a total of 2155kB (plus minus) a client has to download. This might not seem like a problem for advanced players if I enable the clientspeed/netspeed trick on the server. The main problem is that not every player in rune has that enabled so I figure most of them won't bother downloading 15 packages. Also, there are a lot of Russian players around nowadays that download their packages with very slow downloadspeeds. They will never be able to join my server with all those files, I try to keep my server as clean as possible and run the complete necessary. Also, like I said... they need to download things or get possible mismatches for stuff I'm not even using on my server. This will only work out if I want to run arenamode or whatsoever. I actually tried running SATools apart from all the other custom gametypes but it'll tell you packages are missing, so there is something in the script that checks if it's there without actually running it. So what do I want?  I think this mutator is simply great for serveradministration and it's MUCH better than that old BMgame+SemiAdmin basically each server is running. I can delete my current NoRunes mutator because this mutator has an option for it, I can even change settings I didn't even know were possible  I'd like to see a lite version without customgamemodes like arena, ctt, lgs etc, without customskins and without cheatprotection (all servers use a different anticheat mutator that's more advanced, makes this function basically useless) This would mean people only have to download that SATools06 serveradministration package, because that's the only mutator I'm using on my TDM server (apart from anticheat mutators etc). I also like that scoreboard with all those coloroptions, impressive work  I think that's included in that SATools06 package? If this is possible we can finally get rid of that old SemiAdmin and start using this instead. I think it's very important to keep this game as open as possible. The server will get populated rather quickly and it's nice to give every possible new player a chance to enjoy this game! EDIT: I totally forgot about the email, check your PM.

I have not fully tested this, but I think that even new players that just installed the game will download very fast from the server if you configure your server as Phoenix has done: inifamily.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=servers&action=display&thread=2217When I was playing on his server earlier I hadn't entered any special commands or changed any net settings, but still I downloaded big size maps very quickly. I don't know why that would work, maybe it is just another one of those cool Rune bugs. I have seen this on another server before too. So I really think it might be possible.

To make things a bit more clear, the maxclientrate-setting is a serversided setting that will allow more bandwidth if a client requests it. If your connection/computer allows such a setting, it will accept faster downloads from the server. If not, it'll decrease performance and give the server lag, also.. making this setting too low will decrease stability of the server. For normal gameplay it's capped at a maximum number because normal gameplay doesn't require more than that certain number (if I'm right  ). Downloads from the server on the other hand will improve enormously.  For clients (you, joining a server), you need to have your netspeed configured right. You can increase this number manually by using that command, but I think changing the networktype at 'Multiplayer -> Player' changes it automaticly to predefined settings. I think it won't be possible to download faster than your own settings or serversettings allow you to, or I might be completely wrong

I don't have Rune installed anymore, so I can't test any of this myself, but you guys should look into this. It would be amazing if it worked.

I have a new version of SOSLite that is WAY SMALLER than any of this package here... It has NO version mismatches, and it runs AR & DM/TDM. I am going to make another version called SOSUltraLite that will only be DM/TDM game play.
Here are the needed Server Packages for the AR/DM/TDM SOSLite version:
- SOSLite ~474kb - Arena ~325kb - Arena100 ~1kb ============ - total = 800kb

As for the speeds of download... most internet connections are fast enough to DL at 3MB/Second no problem, so if Rune will allow those speeds, it works with no issues. If the person has a crappy 756kb download rate, that is the fastest they will be able to download. Rune can not force a client machine to download faster than the ISP(Internet Service Provider) will allow. All internet connection are 'capped' at a certain rate. Though again, most people now have a decent connection speed allowing us to download at a really fast rate, as long as the server host will also allow a fast rate of client connection.
Therefore it is all based of the clients connection speeds allowed by their ISP, and the server host allowing for the client to pull data at those speeds.

It looks like BM woke up Del's creativity. I love it!  This mutator looks very interesting. It will probably replace SemiAdmin on a few servers. Keep up the great work.
