I'm not sure if I'm going to play much after tonight until perhaps Tuesday, my parents are in San Francisco and they have me semi-babysitting my youngest brother and sister, aged 13 and 15 respectively. Most of this entails chilling at the house of my parents making sure they're not sneaking out and doing crazy sh*t. It's boring as hell, but they pay me $100 a day on top of my normal work schedule...tommorow I'm going to try installing Rune on their home computer and if it works, I can play! Even though Rune's been dead lately...

Don't worry, Rune isn't dead, it's just resting. I will now share with you the secret to populating Rune...I have done this many times myself.
anon2009's guide to populating Rune (first draft)
A word of caution, populating Rune is not something you accomplish over night. It's a long, and at times, a challenging process. There will be times when you want to give up, when you want to uninstall Rune and f*ck up your CD real good (if you have one) - but try not to, keep your eyes on the prize, populating Rune.
Now as you might have noticed, there are quite a few asian rune players in the game. There are people from Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan and many other places. All these people really only have one server to play on - "Taiwan server". Your first goal on the road to populating Rune should be to get the asians playing. You might be asking yourself why, and it's simple actually, when the asians are playing the game the euros will have a server to play on in the morning (euro morning = asian afternoon).
Many euros fire up Rune in the morning for a quick game before they go to school or work. Usually there are only empty servers in the morning, and as most people wont enter an empty server, they will not play. But, since you have already activated the asians, there will be at least one server to play on - Taiwan server.
Getting the euros to play in the morning is important for a number of reasons, but before I go any further, let me try to explain a little what kind of players there are playing the game Rune. On the one hand you have the player who plays some Rune from time to time but doesn't really care if there is noone to play with, he can always play some other game if Rune is "dead". On the other hand, you have your die hard Rune addicts. These people really only play one game - Rune. You can usually see them playing any time of the day, from early morning to early morning, all days of the week. We will call this group of players "the addicts".
These so called addicts play an important role in re-populating the game. After the morning-euros go off to school or work it's the addicts who will keep the servers populated. They will do so for a few hours until euro afternoon when euro kids get back from school or work. This is also about the time when you will see few americans appear on the servers (euro afternoon = american morning). You will see them because the addicts kept the servers populated, americans usually wont join empty servers in the morning. Euro afternoon also means asian evening/night and you might also see a few asians still playing. The euros will continue to play until euro evening/night which means there will be populated servers when americans get home from school or work in the afternoon/evening. And so on...
As you can see, people generate more people. And it all starts with getting the asians to play. After that it will all snowball and there will be more people playing at different times of the day. The important thing to remember is that during the first few weeks you have to play a lot yourself too. You have to make people expect there to be populated servers whenever they start up Rune. This takes a lot of time and effort, it's kind of like a full-time job.
I have now given you the knowledge of how to populate the game, it's up to you what you do with this knowledge. It all really depends on how import Rune is to you. After you got people playing the game you can start worrying about how to keep them in the game. But that is another story for another time.
