Ports are already open on modems, unless it is a modem/router or gateway. The Arris modem has 2 types of hook ups... ethernet and USB. If you are using USB the data passage is slowwer, bottlenecking the throughput to the internet, therefor causing issue sending the packets for a server host. Ethernet should work if it is a simple cable modem... though some are running NAT features that interfere with the connection abilities. If you place this sytle modem into 'Bridge Mode' it will make it a simple modem. I am not sure if it is due to the modem or the opperating system(Vista) at this time... If you check the modem out and let me know what model it is I can answer more for you. I will be gone all wkend in the mountains, though I will bring my laptop to check out this post. Hit me back about your modem and we can go from there. G/L

Ok ITS a Arris modem. the back ofthe arris modem 2 phone line a usb ethernet.which i use to connect to computer reset button cable power unit pluggy model-tm502G....... G as in gone to the mountains 1st off this is a telephony modem, with telephone line data connectors added into the normal version of modem. This modem has given many people issues with networks and things as such. This phone use might play a roll in your computers access or data pass to the internet. Are there any phones hooked up here, or are you not using the phone part of the modem? Are you straight from your computer to this modem? You also stated that you are using ethernet right(not USB)? Some service providers lock you out of controlling your modem at all, though it is worth a shot. Try logging into the modem. 192.168.100.1 would be the default ip address of this modem. Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar type" http://192.168.100.1" ---- hit enter See if you can access the modem. It looks like for the most part the advanced features in this modem will be locked down for technicalsupport access only. Hopefully this is not the case for you. Hit me back, sorry I could not get onto the net this wkend... it was a busy one in the mountains.

It looks to me like your ports are closed. I scanned your network, and unless I use illegal activity there is no access through your ports. This probably means there is more than 1 computer there(network- with a router in place), or the modem has a firewall, or your internet is simply not working due to the provider(Comcast/the modem).
Are you even able to access the internet?
Can you ping yahoo.com? Can you ping 4.2.2.2?
